New casual dining spots in Philly

We accept the repeatedly pushed-back opening dates, and we welcome the changing menu plans. We do this because, like you, we love to pull up a seat at the newest and tastiest joints in town. Here’s where you’ll find us.

Victory at Magnolia

650 W. Cypress St.,Kennett Square,484-730-1870

VictoryBeer.com Victory Brewing out of Downingtown is a local favorite among craft beer drinkers, which we should all be at this point. Just over in Kennett Square is the newly opened Victory brewpub, and it’s got all the things you want with your fermented alcohol: pulled pork sandwiches, wings and mussels. But above all, dear suds-chasers, there is beer.

Big Gay Ice Cream

521 S. Broad St.,267-886-8024

BigGayIceCream.com There’s no shortage of sweet treats or sass in this city, but we love to get a double helping of both. Philly recently welcomed with open arms the New York-based Big Gay Ice Cream. With ice cream names you don’t want to hear your mama saying, this colorful shop is all about flavor.

Waffles & Wedges

1511 Pine St.,215-309-3222

WafflesWedges.com This newly opened tiny wonderland of sweet and savory reminds us that Belgium is about more than just beer — it’s also known for waffles and potato platters that tip the scales. Here you can create your own concoctions with a list of toppings that make imagination your only limit. Waffles & Wedges has a menu intended to please, all served up with some Philadelphia realness. That’s right: Pork roll is a topping option.

Bud & Marilyn’s

1234 Locust St.

BudAndMarilyns.com Business owners and power couple Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran are at it again. Up next is a retro American eatery named after chef Marcie’s grandparents. The opening is slated for early August, and the menu is still getting its final touches, but we’re ready to love it. After the success of Little Nonna’s, Lolita and Barbuzzo, we’ll happily dig into a plate of anything Turney serves up.

1st Ward Sandwich

Front and Morris streets,215-551-8000

1stWardPhilly.com Philadelphia continues to grow as an artisanal food town. But when you get down to it, we’ll always be sandwich lovers first and foremost. So when we learned that there was going to be a new South Philly sandwich joint with — dare we say it — an elevated menu, we rejoiced. The grand opening is set for June 10.
