Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey may be eyeing the top spot on the force in his hometown of Chicago, according to speculation fueled by reports yesterday.
Ramsey, who began his career in Chicago and served the city for 27 years, has reportedly been in touch with mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel about the position.
“Clearly I’m torn,” Ramsey told the Inquirer. “I love Philadelphia . . . but I can’t just dismiss [Chicago]. It is my hometown, the department where I started my career. But it’s not as if I’m unhappy here.”
Mayor Michael Nutter, who hired the Commissioner in his first term, acknowledged the dilemma and expressed hope that Ramsey would stay. In an interview with KYW Newsradio, he confirmed, “I want Police Commissioner Ramsey here in Philadelphia.”
