New franchise, but same old Donovan

Donovan McNabb is 1-0 against his former team. But will he get the chance to improve to 2-0?
After McNabb was benched in the final minutes of a recent loss to the Detroit Lions, there has been much talk and speculation about the quarterback’s future in D.C.

On Thursday, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan assured everyone that No. 5 will be under center Monday against the Eagles. How about next season?

“I sure hope so,” Shanahan said. “That’s been our intention all along.”

McNabb’s contract expires at the end of the season. The two sides haven’t discussed an extension. As rumors fly, McNabb continues to conduct business as usual. He isn’t one to vent through the media.

“I handle my business behind closed doors,” McNabb said. “You find out the problem, you come up with a solution and you move on.”

Of course, McNabb was famously benched two seasons ago when he was an Eagle. Coach Andy Reid dodged any and all questions regarding his former franchise quarterback.

“Listen, the best thing I can tell you, as we sit here today, this was the greatest quarterback to play for the Philadelphia Eagles,” Reid said.
