New Jersey dog groomer charged in Airedale’s death

A dog groomer in Bordentown, New Jersey, was hit with animal cruelty charges after a dog died from injuries allegedly sustained while getting a haircut.

Crosswicks Clippers is facing charges of causing the death or serious injury of an animal andfailing to provide necessary care,theBurlington County SPCAHumane Police announced today.

According to the Burlington County SPCA, Harley, a 10-year-old Airedale, was brought to the groomer walking on a leash on Feb. 21, 2015.

Three hours later, Harley was unable to stand and had to be carried into its owner’s vehicle, the SPCA says.

According to theSPCA, the groomers found the dog lying on the floor unable to stand after hesustained an undisclosed injury, but they didn’t call for emergency veterinary services.

Harley “lost the ability to walk on his own or control his bodily functions” after the incident at the groomer’s,” theBurlington County SPCA said in a statement.

“After a long period of unsuccessful attempts to rehabilitate Harley, the decision was made to have him humanely euthanized,” they said.

No further details about the nature of the injury Harley sustained were available.

But the cat and dog grooming shop’s owner Sarah Bruccoleri denied that they played any part in Harley’s death.

“This complaint is meritless and we intend to defeat it in court,” she said.”We at Crosswicks Clippers have provided excellent service to hundreds of customers in the Burlington area and in 10 years, we have never had a complaint.”

The case will be heard in court on July 22.
