New Regional Rail schedules went into effect Sunday.

The changes are “specifically designed to improve our on-time performance” and reduce the chance that a small setback will spur wider delays, SEPTA said on its website.

Transit officials said the new schedules increase the time between Regional Rail and Amtrak trains in an attempt to lessen the impact of Amtrak delays, especially on the Paoli-Thorndale Line.

In addition, the authority is adding 31 assistant conductors to peak trains and utilizing newer rail cars at higher volume times to expand rider seating and speed up the board process, according to SEPTA officials.

Although schedules are changing for nearly every line, the most significant alterations are to Chestnut Hill East, due to track work.

Three inbound and three outbound CHE trains will not run between 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, meaning service will operate every two hours until April 27. Riders are advised to use the Chestnut Hill West Line or the Route 23 bus.
