The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their preseason action with a matchup against the New York Jets this past Friday. Although the team would come up short in the end, the starters put on a show giving much confidence in the squad on both sides of the ball.
Philadelphia’s offense was smooth, their defense dominant, but most importantly, Jalen Hurts was a perfect 6/6 on passing attempts with a touchdown and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Based on how far the Eagles went last season, plus the additions that were made, it was clear that the team would be much improved as long as Hurts continued to develop.
With the strong performances by both the offense and defense, it’s time to take a look at where the Eagles’ odds stand and whether or not they’re a good bet for the season.
Did the Eagles help themselves with their preseason performance?
Unequivocally, the answer is yes. While it is only preseason — Sam Bradford’s perfect preseason game was also encouraging at the time — the improvements the Eagles made in the offseason proved to be as exciting as advertised.
Free agents Kyzir White and Zach Pascal both made clear impacts, as White intercepted Jets’ quarterback Zach Wilson on the first drive while Pascal led the Eagles in receiving yards and was a consistent source of blocking up field.
Rookies Jordan Davis, Cam Jurgens, and Nakobe Dean did their fair share to impress as it took four Jets to slow Davis down, Jurgens replaced Jason Kelce missing as few beats as possible, and Dean was a tackling force for Philadelphia.
There were improvements from Hurts as well, and they were more than stat-sheet deep. How the young Eagles quarterback responded to pressure and adversity was far different than last season.
Some may be quick to chalk this success up to the low-pressure environment of both playing in the preseason and playing the Jets, and it’s a fair question. For now, credit should be given where it is due and, much like the rent, it is due.
What do the numbers say?
Currently, the Eagles boast +2200 odds per DraftKings which gives them the 11th best odds tied with the Cincinnati Bengals — who made the biggest game of the year back in February. The Eagles also sit just ahead of the Indianapolis Colts and just behind the Baltimore Ravens and division rival Dallas Cowboys.
With those odds, a $100 bet would land you a $2,200 return. What’s more, by simply clicking the following link, you can get a $100 FREE bet on the Eagles just for signing up to DraftKings. That means you can bet the Birds for free if you were to sign up. You can place that free bet on Philadelphia, and you’d win $2,200 if they win the Super Bowl this season — their second both in the last five years and of all time.
Despite it just being a preseason game, the Philadelphia Eagles are undoubtedly trending in the right direction. There is a long season ahead of them, but if they continue to play as they did early Friday night, aspirations of a Super Bowl will only continue to grow more and more.
If you’re not convinced that the Philadelphia Eagles are winning the Super Bowl after one season — which would be understandable — you can use this offer on any other market as well, from the current favorites, the Buffalo Bills, to the most unlikely of team, the Houston Texans.
