If the NFL really wants to crack down on flagrant hits, then this one should be a no-brainer.
The league announced Monday that it is looking into the hit by Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson that floored Jeremy Maclin and drew a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. Replays clearly showed Robinson leading with the helmet, leaving Maclin crumpled on the turf for a few scary seconds.
“He’s two-for-two,” Maclin said of Robinson. “Fortunately, it wasn’t as bad as Jack’s was last year. I was alright, just kind of shocked me in a way.”
Robinson could fall under the category of repeat offender, after delivering a similar hit that concussed DeSean Jackson last year. The hit on Jackson originally drew a $50,000 fine, but was later reduced to $25,000. The league usually hands out disciplinary action by midweek.
