NFL roundup: Giant win for Manning, Packers rolling along

Offenses took center stage Sunday with a number of NFL games coming down to the final drive and play. With the Eagles on bye, let’s take a look around the conference …

New York Giants 27

Washington Redskins 23

It looked like Robert Griffin III had delivered the game-winning drive, then Eli Manning went to work with 1:13 to go. Manning hit Victor Cruz on a 77-yard scoring pass that gave the Giants the victory.

It was the 22nd time that Manning had manufactured a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime.

Dallas Cowboys 19

Carolina Panthers 14

Dan Bailey drilled four field goals, including a 28-yarder with 3:25 that proved to be the game-winner. Tony Romo was steady as steady can be in this one, going 24-of-34 for 227 yards and a touchdown.

Cam Newton got the ball back in the closing seconds, but couldn’t stage a comeback. Anthony Spencer’s sack iced it.

New Orleans Saints 35

Tampa Bay Bucs 28

Mike Williams looked like he had hauled in the game-tying score in the final seconds for Tampa Bay, but the play was called back for illegal touching.

Williams was pushed out of bounds, then came back in to make the catch. Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes for the Saints.

Minnesota Vikings 21

Arizona Cardinals 17

Minnesota got the win despite quarterback Christian Ponder throwing for just 58 yards and two picks. Adrian Peterson sparked the offense with 23 carries for 153 yards and a score. The Vikings’ defense registered seven sacks.

Green Bay Packers 30

St. Louis Rams 20

Don’t look now, here comes the Pack. Aaron Rodgers was nearly perfect going 30-of-37 for 342 yards and three scores as Green Bay won for the second straight week
