NFL rumors: Ndamukong Suh wants Eagles?

Veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh’s time with the Miami Dolphins looks as though it’s up after ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that the 31-year-old could be cut as early as Monday.

It’s a premature end to Suh’s tenure in Miami after signing a six-year, $114.3 million contract prior to the 2015 season. Though he was never the dominant pass rusher the Dolphins expected to be, accruing 15.5 sacks in three years with the team.

The purge of big-time Dolphins talent continues as the news of Suh’s impending departure comes just days after the team traded No. 1 receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns.

Now the free-agent market suddenly has a veteran talent that is a five-time Pro Bowler. While it’s too early to decipher what teams might be interested in bringing on the sometimes-troubled Suh, we might have an idea of where he would want to go.

Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko reported that during the preseason prior to the 2017 campaign, the Dolphins practiced against the now-Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and Suh was floored by them:

[Eagles coach Alex] Lee recalls Ndamukong Suh being so impressed with the team that he approached defensive line coach Chris Wilson with an offer: “Suh told our defensive line coach, ‘The way y’all practice is unbelievable. I don’t care about money at this point — I think I want to play with y’all next year for free,'” Lee says. “Our coach was like, ‘Uhh, can we get that in writin?'” (Suh, through a Dolphins spokesman, denies the incident.)

It remains to be seen if the Eagles would want Suh. The champs have already had an active offseason that’s included the acquisition of defensive end Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks. He’ll be joining a crowded Philadelphia defensive line that already includes Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Chris Long and Derek Barnett.

Adding another big name in Suh would make the Eagles’ defensive line that much more imposing, but it would force a major logjam in the interior between him, Cox and Timmy Jernigan.
