NHL Draft Lottery: Where will the Flyers pick?

The NHL Draft lottery is set for 6:30 p.m. EST this evening on ESPN. The Flyers, who currently hold the 12th pick in the upcoming draft, have a slim chance at moving up the boards.

The highest the Flyers can pick in this year’s draft is 2nd due to a rule change in March 2021, and the lowest they can pick is 14th.

The Flyers hold two first-round selections in the upcoming NHL Draft – their own, and one from the Florida Panthers that was acquired in the 2022 trade that ended the iconic tenure of Claude Giroux. That selection is still up in the air after the Panthers advanced out of the opening round of the NHL playoffs. The Panthers’ selection will not be affected by tonight’s lottery as a result.

According to Tankathon.com the Orange and Black hold a 5.1% chance to make the jump from 12 to 2, a .1% chance to move to 3rd or 4th, an 85.7% chance to stay at 12, an 8.9% shot at 13th and .2% to fall to 14th.

There is a slim chance that the Flyers are drawn in the Draft lottery, but if they are going to realistically move, their destiny very much comes down to the Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings. They could drop as low as 14 if a combination of those teams receive a jump, although with an 85.7% chance of their pick remaining 12th overall, it feels unlikely.
