NHL Playoffs: Flyers look to fix brain cramps, goaltending

Stop us if you’ve heard this before.

The Flyers are down a game to the Boston Bruins in the conference semifinals. Not only that, but their goaltending is in disarray after Brian Boucher fumbled a couple of easy shots into the net and was eventually pulled for Sergei Bobrovsky late in the second period of Saturday’s 7-3 Game 1 wipeout.

In other words, based on their track record, the Flyers have the Bruins right where they want them.

“Today was a game that we’d like to forget,” said Boucher, who could sue his teammates for non-support the way they let the Bruins camp in front of him waiting for rebounds. after Game 1. “There are some things we have to correct, and we will. We’ll be ready for Game 2.”

Whether Peter Laviolette gives him another chance or goes to Bobrovsky may determine how this series plays out. Of course, both teams have dealt with adversity well so far this postseason. The Bruins dropped the first two games at home to Montreal before rallying to win, while the Flyers trailed 1-0 and 3-2 before shuffling off Buffalo. Still, it’s not a pattern they’re anxious to repeat.

“We realized how bad we played and how many mistakes we made and brain cramps we had [in Game 1],” said Danny Briere. “There are a lot of things we needed to rectify.”

And not much time to do it.

“We had made a lot of mistakes and things that were very uncharacteristic of us that we feel can be fixed,” said veteran defenseman Sean O’Donnell. “I think the guys are ready to come and atone for [Saturday] and hopefully tie this thing up.”

If they stick to their track record, book it.
