The first weekend of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire broke attendance records, with more than 1,500 patrons attending the event based on the story of War of Scottish Independence leader William Wallace and his struggles with the King of England.

Entertainment includes sword fighting, the Mad Mechanicals – who, according to a release, “put the ‘Shake’ into Shakespeare” – and Dave Darwin the One-Man Sideshow.

The event also features turkey legs, giant pickles, a merchant village consisting of 60 tents selling handcrafted products, a blacksmith and glass blower Jason Klein, who has crafted works for films like “The Hobbit” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

The Renaissance Faire continues this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 1195 Florence-Columbus Rd. in Bordentown.

Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for children aged 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and under.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-888-864-8222 or through the N.J. Renaissance Faire website.

Discounts are available for admission purchased online, as well as for attendees who arrive in costume.
