No one seriously injured in Delaware County helicopter crash, police say

All aboard survived when a medical transport helicopter crashed Tuesday afternoon in Upper Darby, authorities said.

The chopper came down just before 1 p.m. near the corner of Burmont Road and Bloomfield Avenue in the Drexel Hill neighborhood, Upper Darby Police said.

Photographs circulating on social media showed the damaged helicopter steps away from a church, identified as Drexel Hill United Methodist.

“At this time, there are no reported injuries to the public, responders, and only minor injuries to one of the helicopter crew members,” Upper Darby Police said on Twitter. “Federal authorities were notified and are handling the investigation.”

Air Methods, the company that owns the helicopter, said the aircraft was part of the LifeNet program, transporting critical care patients from Hagerstown, Maryland, to hospitals in the region.

“Our team will cooperate fully with their efforts to assess the cause of this unfortunate accident,” said Doug Flanders, vice president of communications for Air Methods, in a statement. “Privacy rights with regards to those on board the aircraft will be honored, and we will not be sharing any additional information.”
