NoChe: This new lounge puts focus on the art of cocktail crafting

The art of crafting cocktails is explored in Rittenhouse Square’s latest opening, NoChe. The sophisticated and chic cocktail lounge comes from FCM Hospitality, and it sits in the former home of a popular nightclub that boasted the same name from 2004 to 2014. 

What this nestled-away venue aims to bring with its art-deco vibes and tailor-made cocktails is a way to experience the space and its offerings, which also includes some options for upscale bites. 

“NoChe fills the gap of Philly cocktail bars that feel really intimate and exclusive, yet are still warm and inviting,” said owner Avram Hornik in a statement. “It is a special moment to add to your night. Stop by for a stand-alone drink and snacks with friends before – or after – dinner on the Square.”

The cocktail spot obviously has an extensive beverage program, and it was crafted by FCM Hospitality Beverage Director Matthew Deutsch. The offerings bring together unexpected flavor pairings, and ultimately, the menu is broken down into time-honored classics, reimagined concoctions and champagne cocktails, plus beers by draft, can and bottle, seltzers, wines, and a full line of spirits. 

But what this new space calls its “crown jewel” is the cocktail board. When Philadelphians order this particular menu item part of the process is completed tableside so guests can be involved in the process. For the drinks to be complete, diners get to put some of the final touches on them. 

Cocktail options include popular classics such as a New York Sour, Pimm’s Cup and Penicillin. Then there is the “Classics Reimagined” category with options boasting a Black Cucumber G&T (Scapegrace Black Gin, Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic and cucumber caviar), a Campfire Old Fashioned (Bacon Washed Makers 46 Bourbon, maple, smoked chili bitters with torched cinnamon) and more. 

Signature cocktails utilize a wide span of different liquors, such as Casamigos Reposado in the Sips Happen drink. That cocktail also boasts Vanilla Infused Kiki Vodka, Borghetti Espresso Liqueur and Fernet Whipped Cream. The Equinox boasts Beach Coconut White Whiskey, Bacardi Ocho Rum, Bacardi Spiced Rum, grilled pineapple, lime and a spiced apple cider ice cube. 

Cocktails range in pricing from $18-$23, and a full list of libation choices along with the lower-priced drafts, wines and spritzes (think a French 75, Figgy Thyme and more) can be found online. And for those looking for something a little less spirited, sodas and other beverages are also available. 

Ultimately, Philadelphians can also look for new cocktails and cocktail boards to debut throughout the winter and into spring, with an evolving menu based around the seasons. 

And as the release states, the board theme continues in the lounge’s food selection which has a special menu section dedicated to various boards — charcuterie, cheese, crudites and more. Other light bites to complement the cocktails include caviars, tea sandwiches and small plates served by knowledgeable staff. 

Additional menu highlights include a raw bar tray, lamb meatballs, fried Manchego cheese, Wagyu beef carpaccio, crispy potatoes and much more.
