NORTH PHILADELPHIA. The savage beating death of a waitress who worked at a popular Northern Liberties bar scared neighbors of the victim yesterday.
Police found Sabina Rose O’Donnell’s naked body in a grassy lot on Orianna Street just north of Girard Avenue at about 10 a.m. Authorities believe she was randomly attacked as she entered her apartment after a night out with friends. The suspect also robbed O’Donnell, who worked at nearby PYT bar.
“This was a brutal, savage attack,” homicide Capt. James Clarke said. “We need this individual off the street.”
O’Donnell, 21, police said, had been out with friends at El Camino on North Second Street. The petite, young woman then went to a friend’s house and left around midnight on a bike. Neighbors reported that another resident on North Fourth Street woke up and heard a man in her apartment before chasing them out.
“It does concern me,” Tamara Draper, 28, said. “I walk around this neighborhood freely.”
, ever since I was a teenager.” Draper said she and a friend were outside around midnight and saw a suspicious-looking man on the block.
Another woman, who declined to give her name, called the incident “scary.”
“It’s very scary. I’m still not believing it,” said the woman, who is originally from Spain but has lived in the neighborhood for a year.
PYT was closed yesterday as co-workers mourned, according to the owner’s Twitter page.
