Not how they drew it up

Chris Seitz didn’t hesitate. As soon as he realized stoppage time was over, the Union goalie boomed the ball into the stands. While Seitz insisted the move wasn’t premeditated, it was a symbolic gesture to the 34,870 Union fans at Lincoln Financial Field.

“Things like that you don’t plan out, I was just excited to get a win at home,” Seitz said after the Union beat D.C. United 3-2 last Saturday. “That was the best home environment I’ve ever played in. [The crowd was] loud, rambunctious, it’s important to help push you if you need a goal late.”

That goal came from Sebastien Le Toux, who hit the unassisted game-winner in the 80th minute.

“That’s not how you draw it up,” said interim coach John Hackworth.

Le Toux took only four shots, but scored on three of them. It was the Union’s first game in nearly two weeks and first-ever victory after losing their season opener in Seattle. Now, they have just three more days to rest before traveling to Toronto.
