Nutter admins say Blackwell won’t play ball on drop-in AVI meetings

City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell asked why Mayor Michael Nutter’s administration stopped hosting community meetings on the Actual Value Initiative in her district.

The administration said Wednesday that Blackwell is not supporting its offer to host drop-in, or one-on-one, meetings instead.

Mark McDonald, Nutter’s press secretary, said eight of the 10 district council members have partnered with the administration on the drop-in meetings. “So you don’t have to have a mass meeting. You don’t have to sit there … and listen to people complain and create fear.”

“Jannie Blackwell specifically refused to do these,” he said.

“That’s not true,” Blackwell said. “I have no information about any drop-ins. … I don’t know anything about it. I’m happy to be available, I’m happy to attend any meeting that I learn of in my district or about my district, but I have no knowledge to what he refers.”
