Off-duty officer injured in hit-and-run

An off-duty cop who was riding a motorcycle was struck in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday morning in North Philadelphia, police said.

The officer, a 35-year-old man, was on a Harley Davidson on Hunting Park Avenue heading toward the ramp to Roosevelt Boulevard just after 1 a.m. when he was hit by a car, described as possibly a gray SUV.

Investigators said the driver of the vehicle made an illegal left turn from the Roosevelt Boulevard ramp.

Medics took the officer, who injured his leg, to Temple University Hospital, according to police.

In other news, detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding a driver who left the scene after plowing into three cars last month in South Philadelphia.

Police said the crash occurred just after 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, on the 1700 block of Oregon Avenue. A sedan swiped a parked vehicle, breaking its mirror, before ramming another parked car, which was pushed into a third vehicle.

The car that took the brunt of the impact sustained major damage, according to investigators.

Surveillance video released Tuesday shows the driver quickly getting out of the sedan before driving away.

Authorities described the car as a white Kia Optima with chrome door handles, dark-tinted windows and what may be a purple or pink glowing Lyft sign on the front dashboard.
