Office of Supportive Housing gets another federal grant

Philly’s Office of Supportive Housing was awarded $8 million in federal dollars to go towards 115 new housing units Thursday formany experiencing homelessness – the target demographic of these new units.

The Tier 2 Continuum of Care (CoC) grants are designed to build on the funding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded through a first round of grants the city received in March aimed at efforts to quell homelessness in parts of Philadelphia.

The 115 new housing units will be erected at various locations across the city. They build upon the exiting 194 existing permanent and transitional housing units that were put in the during the first round of federal grants.

Occupancy will be geared towards single men and women experiencing chronic homelessness. The city’s Office of Supportive Housing will determine who’s eligible.

“Our second award is a further testament to the excellent work our provider community does in partnership with the city,” OSH Director Liz Hersh said in a news release.

“These new housing opportunities in particular will enable us to take another step forward in aggressively tackling youth, family and street homelessness.”
