One elected row office abolished

It turns out that having no one do former Clerk of Quarter Sessions Vivian Miller’s job actually improved the role her office was supposed to fill.

And Mayor Michael Nutter made sure no one ever fills her position again yesterday when he abolished the former elected position and changed the way the city collects and tracks bail money. Court officials said yesterday that since Miller left her position earlier this year, bail collections have increased about 27 percent under the new watch of other departments in the city courts.

“Our citizens expect efficient … low-cost municipal services,” Nutter said.
