One of Philly’s most wanted arrested in Florida car chase

A Philadelphia man wanted for murder has been arrested in Florida.

Kayree Reid was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals outside of Jacksonville, Florida, and police said he will be charged with the homicide of Maurice McDonald, ABC reported, adding that Reid was recently listed among Philadelphia’s most wanted fugitives.

Silvestre del Rosario, with the U.S. Marshals, said to CBS, “We got information from the U.S. Marshals out in Philadelphia that a homicide fugitive from Philadelphia was in the Jacksonville area.”

Investigators said to CBS that when they went to arrest Reid, he was a passenger in a car, and the driver sped off witha baby in the backseat, starting a chase that ended when the driver slammed into a couple of police cars. Reid and the driver were arrested, CBS added.

Marshals say no one was hurt in the chase, but they did find narcotics in the car, according to ABC.

Police said McDonald, 22, was killed on November 10th inside J and R Perez Grocery on North 38th Street in Mantua, ABC added, also stating that a memorial of stuffed animals still sits outside the store.

In Mantua, news of the arrest was met with relief by many, ABC reported, quoting Ava McNeely, McDonald’s stepmother: “We need him off the streets. I appreciate everything the detectives – whoever was in charge – I appreciate them very much.”

Authorities say Reid will appear in court in Florida to face extradition proceedings that will bring him back to Pennsylvania, ABC stated.
