The latest shots fired in the Giants-Eagles rivalry came from the always-entertaining lips of LeSean McCoy.
McCoy, entrenched in an ongoing Twitter battle with Osi Umenyiora, called the defensive end a “ballerina in a Giants uniform” on ESPN. McCoy was absent in the locker room the past two days as he deals with a sore hip, but the running back is probably laughing it up somewhere.
Umenyiora has mostly taken the high road when asked about it. He even threw out some self-deprecating humor Thursday, telling New York reporters that he won’t be wearing a tutu Sunday night.
“They fine you,” Umenyiora told reporters. “No tutu, no nothing. Just a regular Giants uniform.”
Of course, this rivalry is about much more than McCoy and Umenyiora. These two teams have a pure hatred for one another. The Eagles have dominated the series in recent years, winning six of the last seven meetings. But the Giants have dominated where it matters most — in the trophy case, with two Super Bowl titles in the past five years.
“Most of the time, it’s a physical, physical and tough, tough ballgame,” said Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. “There has been a couple where they have been low scoring, tough, physical with a lot of running by both sides. Cold weather, we have been through a lot of those. It’s a great rivalry and one of the very best.”
“We know the Giants are a big rivalry. We are always ready to play when they come to town because they’re one of the best teams in the league,” Brent Celek said. “Obviously, they won the Super Bowl twice in the last five years. They’re a great team, and we’re going to have to be ready for them.”
