Overnight shootings leave 1 dead, 8 injured in Philadelphia

A man was killed and eight other people were injured in a series of shootings Halloween night and early Monday morning in Philadelphia, with three of the incidents happening within a 20-minute time period, authorities said.

Three men were hit when gunfire erupted just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 1400 block of Parrish Street in the Francisville section of lower North Philadelphia, police said.

One of the victims, a man described as between 25 and 35 years old, was shot multiple times and died a short time later at Jefferson University Hospital, according to investigators.

A man in his mid-20s and a 22-year-old man were each shot several times. Both were in extremely critical condition following the shooting, police said.

Minutes later, in Hunting Park, a 24-year-old man was shot in the wrist and grazed in the abdomen near the corner of I and Luzerne streets, authorities said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers were called to St. Christopher Hospital for Children at around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday after two men who had been shot walked into the emergency room.

Police said a 20-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and right shoulder, and a 24-year-old man — who left before the officers arrived at the hospital — suffered a graze wound.

The shooting occurred on the 1200 block of E. Hunting Park Avenue in Juniata, according to investigators.

On Sunday, just before midnight, an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, buttocks and hip on the 2700 block of W. Berks Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

In Southwest Philadelphia, a 32-year-old man was shot in the right leg just before 9:45 p.m. Sunday on the 5200 block of Saybrook Avenue, investigators said. He is expected to physically recover.

Someone shot a 21-year-old man in the pelvis area at around 8:45 p.m. Sunday on the 4700 block of Melrose Street in East Frankford, police said. He was later listed in stable condition at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

Investigators said a 44-year-old man was stabbed twice in the neck, once in the abdomen and once in the arm during an argument with another man just before 8:45 p.m. Sunday on the 3100 block of N. 8th Street in North Philadelphia.

The victim is expected to survive.

Earlier Sunday, just after 2 p.m., a 53-year-old man was shot four times in the left arm on the 1100 block of W. Venango Street in North Philadelphia, police said. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of any of the shootings.
