PA CareerLink hosts Career Fair to help locals and businesses in need of work

PA CareerLink is helping those searching and preparing for a new job with a equitable career fair, slated for Thursday, Sept. 12.

PA CareerLink Northwest Philadelphia is operated by Philadelphia Works, and is part of Pennsylvania’s network of 62 offices embedded in local communities. The organization is staffed with professionals who help workers find, obtain, and maintain family-sustaining employment, a release notes. For employers, PA CareerLink connects businesses directly with the talent they need to fill critical positions in trades and emerging industries as well.

On Sept. 12, locals looking for work can head to Careerlink’s Career Fair to secure a career plan, or, secure some workers for your business. Essentially while there, visitors can check out no-cost training, education services, apprenticeship opportunities, career advancement help, and support services to help with success barriers.

The event also notes that this year specifically, along with serving the public, additional resources have been added for special populations including opportunities for youth, immigrants, returning citizens, and people with disabilities.

CareerLink has already hit the ground in Philadelphia in the summer and early fall with similar opportunities, where they offered expungement clinics, career coaching, resume development, fair chance hiring, financial information, free haircuts, backpack giveaways, and food trucks on site.

Whether you’re re- entering the workforce, an immigrant seeking new beginnings, or exploring a new career path, our goal is to provide you with the resources and connections needed to thrive,” said Secretary Nancy A. Walker in a statement after visiting the organization’s August event.

“I encourage all Pennsylvanians to take advantage of these upcoming events at PA CareerLink locations throughout the Commonwealth and explore the many pathways to a successful and fulfilling career.”

For this upcoming Thursday specifically, visitors can find live workshops, resume writing assistance, giveaways, free haircuts and more at Suburban Station’s 2nd floor (1617 JFK Blvd) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Essentially, these fairs highlight the many career paths and opportunities available, as well as highlight the free services offered at PA CareerLink centers to help Pennsylvanians land that next job.

As the release also notes, for PA CareerLink Awareness Days this year, Philadelphia Works embraced a targeted approach, guiding each Center to address specific community needs and better serve diverse populations. For each of their events, they are providing additional resources for immigrants, returning citizens, youth, and people with disabilities, showing a commitment to breaking down employment barriers and elevating access to career growth opportunities.

Patrick Clancy, President and CEO of Philadelphia Works in a statement. “This collaboration and support enable us to tailor our efforts in making a real difference in the lives of Philadelphia residents, particularly those from underserved communities.”

Additionally, as the release finishes, last month, Shapiro signed a new budget into law that will increase Pennsylvania’s Career and Technical Education investment by $30 million and expand funding for registered apprenticeship programs by $2 million to fill much-needed nursing positions across the Commonwealth.

These Career Fairs are a step to match employers with qualified and skilled candidates.
