As the first day of school nears, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation has begun the process of draining the city’s public pools for the season.
Closings began Thursday and will continue in phases through Monday, Sept. 2, according to the department. Nearly 60 pools opened this summer.
Sprinklers, splash pads and other playground water features will remain open through Labor Day weekend, officials said.
Parks & Recreation published the below pool closing schedule on its website, though the department said dates are subject to change. Local pool staff can confirm draining times. Typically, the pools shut down at the end of the day listed.
Heitzman, Penrose, Ellis (39th and Olive), Lincoln, Simpson, Awbury, Barry, Kendrick, Ridgway, East Poplar, Dendy, Cherashore, Mander, Sacks, Cruz, Mitchell, Samuel, Fox Chase, Waterloo and Athletic pools closed last week or over the weekend.
