This holiday season, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is inviting you to unleash joy by adopting a shelter pet.
PAWS saves thousands of animals each year who would otherwise face euthanasia, and in the final weeks of 2024, the need for pet adopters is as urgent than ever.
With shelter intake alarmingly high, loving adoptive homes create needed space for other animals whose lives depend on it. The Cold Noses & Warm Hearts adoption promotion — running now through Dec. 24 — aims to match pets with great adopters in time for the holidays and save more animals who are waiting for the same chance.
“As we celebrate the holiday season, we’re reminded of the joy and love that pets bring into our lives,” says Melissa Levy, PAWS’ executive director. “But for homeless pets, this time of year is spent waiting for a family to call their own. By adopting, you’re not only giving them the gift of a loving home, but also opening space for us to save even more lives. There’s no better time to make a difference — for them and for yourself — than during the holidays.”
PAWS offers support, guidance and training for adopters as they welcome a new pet into their lives. Alongside adoption efforts, PAWS supports pet owners through vital programs such as affordable veterinary care at its two clinics, a pet food pantry, behavioral and training resources, and a safety net foster program that provides temporary housing for pets while their owners navigate periods of transition.
