Help save tiny lives: PAWS hosts ‘Kitten Week’ to recruit fosters

Spring has sprung, and with it comes “kitten season” — that time of year when animal shelters are flooded with orphaned kittens. Since the little ones are especially vulnerable to illness, they need safe, loving foster homes to grow strong enough for adoption.

As the number of kittens climbs, so does the need for fosters. That’s why PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society), the city’s largest rescue partner, is hosting “Kitten Week,” now through Friday, April 18 — to rally the community and gear up to save Philly’s most fragile felines.

“The need for foster homes is more important than ever,” said Tammy Miller, PAWS’ senior foster and adoption manager. “Foster care is crucial to our mission, especially during this time of year. Kittens are among the most vulnerable animals we rescue, and they need to be placed in foster homes quickly to receive individual care.”

PAWS’ Kitten Week is packed with fun and informative events, all centered around one critical mission: fostering.

On Thursday, April 17, (5 – 8 p.m.), PAWS will host a Kitten Shower Happy Hour and Cat Quizzo at Carbon Copy West, 701 50th St. Cat Quizzo kicks off at 7 p.m. There will be raffle prizes, and attendees can learn about fostering and mingle with fellow animal lovers. PAWS will also be accepting donations for its ‘Kitten Shower Wishlist‘ during the event.

Another Kitten Shower Happy Hour will take place at the American Sardine Bar, 1800 Federal St., on Friday, April 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. During the event, expect to meet foster kittens, learn about fostering, and mingle.

Finally, on Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m. PAWS will host a Kitten Foster Orientation at its Grays Ferry Wellness Clinic (2900 Grays Ferry Ave.) to provide potential foster parents with more information about the foster program.

“We’re calling on the community to step up and help,” finished Miller. “By raising awareness of the need for fosters, we can save countless lives this kitten season.”
