A man who was wanted in connection with the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center crash that left four people injured – including three nurses – is in police custody, authorities said.
Jaadir Goodwyn, 20, turned himself in Wednesday afternoon, police said, less than 24 hours after officials identified him as a suspect in the incident.
Law enforcement alleged during a news conference Tuesday that Goodwyn was one of three men inside a Jeep Cherokee that sped into the nurses who were treating a 28-year-old gunshot victim at around 4:15 a.m. Saturday outside the hospital’s emergency room.
Goodwyn and the two other men, police said, had earlier loaded the wounded man into the vehicle following a shooting on the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue in the Parkside neighborhood.
The trio pulled into the trauma bay, got out of the Jeep, and begged medical personnel to come out and help the man, according to Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore. But, when a Penn Police cruiser showed up, the men got back into their car and intentionally struck the nurses and their patient, Vanore added.
One of the nurses, a 36-year-old man, suffered internal bleeding and facial injuries and remains in critical condition, officials said Tuesday. The gunshot victim, who had multiple wounds, was also being treated for serious injuries, according to the PPD.
Prosecutors have said Goodwyn will be charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, causing an accident with injuries, aggravated assault by vehicle and related crimes. Information about his legal counsel was not immediately available through court records Wednesday.
