More than 400,000 Pennsylvanians have received payments this month through the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, according to State Treasurer Stacy Garrity. The payments total approximately $255.8 million and are aimed at helping residents cope with rising housing costs.

“The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is a tremendous program that gives hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians the help they need to make ends meet,” Garrity said in a statement. “I encourage everyone to check to see if they’re eligible to apply if they haven’t already.”

The rebate program is open to qualifying homeowners and renters whose annual income falls below $46,520. Eligible residents can receive up to $1,000, with applicants allowed to exclude half of their Social Security income when calculating eligibility. Income limits are updated annually.

Those eligible include Pennsylvanians age 65 or older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and individuals with disabilities age 18 and older who meet the income criteria.

The deadline to apply for this year’s rebate has been extended to December 31, 2025. Future payments will be issued as applications are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

In 2024, more than $315 million in rebates were distributed to about 517,500 residents across the state.
