Now in its 50th year, People’s Light in Malvern is celebrating its anniversary season with a variety of events. The first, a Flight Nights series titled ‘Something Wicked’, will kick off next week.

Taking place Wednesday, Oct. 30, this dinner and theater experience comes from writer/producer Andrew Watring, and the night will be filled with creative twists on different fairy tales and folklore. During each “mini-play,” (which will span 5 to 10 minutes) audience members will also receive a unique pairing of wine to fit into the story.

As a release notes, People’s Light chose this experience as an immersive format because it ensures that guests are both entertained and engaged, as the performances are woven seamlessly into the social atmosphere. The Flight Night series is an initiative by People’s Light to offer a fresh and accessible theatre-going experience, and by pairing short, performances with “thoughtfully curated wine flights,” the series is designed to attract new audiences while providing long-time supporters with a novel way to engage with the art.

“Flight Nights are a unique way to experience theatre, bringing people together to share in stories, wine and a bit of mischief,” says Peoples’ Light Producing Artistic Director Zak Berkman in a statement. “We’re always looking to push the boundaries of how we engage audiences, and Something Wicked is the perfect way to kick off this new series during our 50th anniversary season.”

Attendees 21 and older are welcome to secure tickets for the event (which starts at 6 p.m.) Prices range from $40 for single tickets, or, you can opt to buy a bundle of 5 for $175 for future Flight Nights (upcoming dates include Feb 5, April 2, June 4 and July 16, 2025.)

Philadelphians can also make a night of heading out to the Malvern-based venue by stopping by the campus’ restaurant as well, The Fern & Fable. The establishment is located just steps away from the stage, and it offers al fresco dining in the warmer months. The menu changes seasonally, but some previous standouts have included salmon pasta, braised short ribs of beef, roasted root vegetables, lemon chicken, apple crisp and more.

Tickets for ‘Something Wicked’ are on sale now and can be purchased at PeoplesLight.org or by calling the box office at 610-644-3500. Guests are encouraged to reserve their spots early, as space is limited.
