Person in custody following Pat’s Steaks beating

One person is in police custody in connection with last week’s fatal beating outside Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia, authorities said Monday.

The individual turned themselves in, and no charges had been approved as of Monday afternoon. No further details about the person were released.

Authorities issued warrants Sunday charging Osvaldo “Willie” Pedraza, 34, of Fishtown, and Victor Pedraza, 32, of South Philadelphia, with murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault and related crimes.

“There have been a lot of tips called in,” Assistant District Attorney Chesley Lightsey told reporters. “The public has been exceptionally responsive in giving information, so the investigation is going well at this point.”

“We’re very hopeful that we’ll be able to bring all of the suspects in soon,” she added.

Four men viciously attacked 28-year-old Isidro Cortez, who lived in Queens, New York, outside the cheesesteak shop just before 2 a.m. last Thursday.

Medics pronounced Cortez dead at the scene. His 64-year-old father and a friend, 28, were also injured in the beating, which began following an argument, according to police.

Surveillance video shows the men swinging a metal trash can lid and kicking the victims in the head after they were knocked to the ground.

The attackers were wearing yellow Club America jerseys, and investigators believe both groups attended Wednesday night’s Concacaf Champions League match between the Mexican soccer team and the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park in Chester.

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334/3335; call or text 215-686-8477; or submit an anonymous tip at www.phillypolice.com/forms/submit-a-tip.
