Antonio Bastardo was credited with a blown save, after giving up a two-run, game-tying homer to Ian Desmond with two outs in the ninth. Bastardo hadn’t blown a save all season. Normal closer Ryan Madson wasn’t available for a second straight day.
Roy Halladay started and was on track for his 16th win, but was replaced by Michael Schwimer after an hourlong rain delay. Halladay allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings, while Schwimer gave up one run on two hits. Lidge (0-1) picked up the loss after walking in the winning run.
The Phillies’ offense was fueled by a two-run bomb by Carlos Ruiz in the second, then a solo shot from Chase Utley in the third. Michael Martinez’s RBI single pushed the Phils ahead, 4-3, in the ninth inning.
