PGA in Philly: Philadelphia lands men’s, women’s major championship

What will the Philadelphia sports landscape look like in 10 years?

Will the Eagles finally have a Super Bowl title? Will the Sixers’ Process be complete?

After an annoucement made Tuesday we know one thing for sure about this city’s sports scene in 2027 — it will host a major golf championship.

Historic Aronimink Golf Club will host it’s second ever PGA Championship in ten years. This in addition to being slated to host the BMW Championship — part of the FedEx playoffs, next September.

Can’t wait until 2027? The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be here in 2020, a much more relatable timeframe and one locals can get excited about.

“The membership of Aronimink welcomes the PGA of America back to the site of Gary Player’s 1962 PGA Championship,” said the club’s president Joe Fabrizio. “We are very excited to be the host venue for these two great championship events. Our golf course, recently restored to Donald Ross’ original design, will be a true test of golf for both the women and men.”

The 2020 event will put women’s golf in the headlines in Philadelphia, in addition to the LPGA ShopRite Classic held not far from the city near Atlantic City, N.J. every year.

“Through the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, we continue to elevate women on and off the golf course,” KPMB US Chairman and CEO Lynn Doughtie said. “Aronimink Golf Club will provide another top caliber course on which the world’s best women golfers can compete. To help more women in business advance to the C-suite, the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit provides next-generation women leaders with high-impact leadership development content, networking, and access to inspirational leaders.”
