PGA Tour: Charles Schwab Challenge betting preview & best bets

After a stunning Sunday concluded the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour heads back to the Colonial Country Club for the annual Charles Schwab Challenge. The course has hosted the event since 2019 and while providing a real challenge for golfers this weekend, it will be one where experience plays a large role.

If you’re looking to bet on the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, we’ve got you covered.

Setting the scene

Colonial Country Club has been a staple of the PGA Tour since 1946 and is a favorite among many thanks to its challenging nature. With water hazards aplenty and some narrow fairways to navigate, an emphasis will be placed on shot-shaping and accuracy off the tee.

PGA Tour odds

Scottie Scheffler +280
Colin Morikawa +1200
Max Homa +1800
Jordan Spieth +2000
Tony Finau +2500
Harris English +2800
Sungjae Im +3000
Si-Woo Kim +3500

The overwhelming favorite coming into this week’s PGA Tour event is unsurprisingly Scottie Scheffler, who finished third here last year. We’re getting used to seeing Scottie priced significantly lower than the chasing pack, but it’s also hard to justify right now. While he did see out his PGA Championship efforts, the off-course controversy that saw the world No. 1 arrested prior to day 2 of the event captured headlines nationwide. With that said, he still shot a 66 mere hours after stretching in a jail cell and ended the tournament 8th overall. If there’s anyone who can drown out the noise, it’s the man who has won 4 events this season and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Colin Morikawa enjoyed a stellar outing at the PGA Championship but fell short of the mark on Sunday. He’s finished no lower than 24th in his last 5 tournaments and is picking up speed just in time for Major season. In what is a top-heavy field, it would hardly be surprising to see him in the mix this weekend.

Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, and Tony Finau are all viable shouts too, but my favorite among the trio has to be Homa. He came 35th this past weekend but has been playing very steadily over the last couple of months and has an excellent history at this event, finishing 9th last year and inside the top-25 back in 2022. With his game now far more well-rounded, this could be the week he finally gets it all together.

PGA Tour Sleeper picks

Aaron Rai: +5000

One PGA Tour breakout star in the making who I’m high on this week is Aaron Rai. The Englishman finished 39th at the PGA Championship and 4th place at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and recently finished 7th at The Houston Open. Rai ranks 10th on approach coming into this week and 10th in driving accuracy which should come in very handy around this tight and twisty course.

Thomas Detry +4500

Detry’s emphatic Sunday performance pushed him to a 5th place finish at The PGA Championship and he’s now notched 3 top-10 finishes in his last 5 events. The Belgian is beginning to heat up and is currently ranked 10th in putting. If he can gain some ground on approach, building on what we saw this weekend, there’s no reason he can’t make a push for that maiden win.
