Philadelphia Bacon and Beer Festival sizzles at the 23rd Street Armory

The city of Philadelphia is a festival breeding ground. There is almost always a festival coming up, whether it’s beer-, food- or neighborhood-related. The practical thing about that is the variety of festivals that happen in the city. This one is for the beer and bacon enthusiasts.

The fourth annual Philadelphia Bacon and Beer Festival will be on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the 23rd Street Armory from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The purpose of the event, besides eating meat and drinking beer, is to raise money for the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) — a Philly based nonprofit.

MANNA cooks healthy meals and provides them to people suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The Philadelphia Bacon and Beer Festival has raised $30,000 for MANNA over the past three years.

Every year the festival gets a number of local restaurants together, gives them bacon and asks them to cook something up that will go well with a nice craft beer. This year the supply of bacon is being provided by Ari Miller and 1732 Meats.

The participating restaurants include: The Blue Duck, Brick and Mortar, Bru Craft & Wurst, Cheu Noodle Bar, City Tap House, Craftsman Row, Devil’s Den, Dos Tacos, Drexel Food Lab, Grubhouse, Indeblue, Iron Hill Chestnut Hill, Kensington Quarters, MilkBoy, Prohibition Taproom, Shake Shack, SouthGate, St. Benjamin’s Taproom, Standard Tap, Taproom on 19th, The Twisted Tail, Waffles & Wedges and Wishbone Philly.

The participating breweries include: 2nd Story Brewing, Allagash, Cape May Brewing, Conshohocken Brewing, Crime & Punishment, Flying Fish, Highway Manor, Iron Hill, Manayunk Brewery, Penn Brewery, Sly Fox, St. Benjamin, Two Roads, Weyerbacher, Yards, Round Guys and Austin Eastciders.

The festival will be held inside with music playing so attendees can enjoy the assortment of bacon creations and craft beers without fear of rain or wind.

Tickets are on sale right now at nightout.com. There is a general ticket and a VIP ticket, which includes skipping the line to get in, a free bacon T-shirt, a Defend Bacon tote, a commemorative glass and a half pound of 1732 Meats bacon to take home.
