Glen Foerd exhibit showcases wearable sculptures by local jewelry artist

The historic Glen Foerd has announced a new art exhibit, which is located within the library bookcases of the mansion’s historic main house. “Home Waters at Glen Foerd” will feature wearable sculptures by Philadelphia jewelry artist Barb Baur in a new exhibit and will run now through the end of July.

Guests can view Baur’s creative artwork from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No reservation is needed to visit during open hours, and all four floors of the historic house will be open for self-guided tours.

Baur will give a free artist talk on July 13, at 1 p.m., where the artist will speak on the unique design process of the exhibit, which incorporates 3D printing and hand dyeing in addition to other, more traditional jewelry-making techniques. The event is open to the public, but advanced registration for the event is encouraged.

At 11 a.m., ahead of her artist talk, Baur will lead a free jewelry-making workshop titled “Recycled Ripples Jewelry,” presented by Tacony LAB. The workshop will take place in the dining room of Glen Foerd’s main house. Visitors can create a small piece of jewelry using colored sheet aluminum recycled from cans, among other materials. Registration is also encouraged to ensure there are enough materials.

“Much of the work will revolve around the forms of ships and the waters near Philadelphia,” Baur said of the works in the exhibit. “I have always felt an affinity for the water.”

Baur once spent 12 years living on a sailboat while running a software company, and even today, the Philadelphia native has her own sailboat docked on the Delaware River. Baur’s maritime inspiration pours over into her company, Fair Winds Jewelry, which produces and sells nautical-themed pieces of jewelry.

Admissions to the exhibit is free. Donations are appreciated but not required, and attendees are asked to register in advance by visiting Glen Foerd’s events page.
