Philadelphia police officer charged in domestic violence case

A Philadelphia police officer has been charged with aggravated assault and other crimes for allegedly striking the mother of his children and threatening to kill her in front of their four kids, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Officer Ramon Chaulisant, 33, of North Philadelphia, has been placed on administrative duty and his police weapon was confiscated, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

In addition to aggravated assault, Chaulisant was charged with making terroristic threats, theft, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.

He was released from custody pending further court proceedings, and court records did not list information for his attorney.

The charges followed an incident that occurred Aug. 1, when Chaulisant allegedly smashed dishes at the woman’s home and told her he would “f—— kill her.” Prosecutors said he also broke her car window and stole her laptop and cellphone.

Back in April, he called police during a dispute with the woman while she was picking up their kids, and the DA’s Office said he told responding officers they would find her “face down” if she ever came to his home again.

Chaulisant is also accused of hitting the victim in the face and pushing her down a flight of stairs during an altercation in February, according to authorities.

In all three incidents, the pair’s four children, all under the age of 18, were present, the DA’s Office said.

DA Larry Krasner, in a statement Wednesday, said investigators intervened in “a highly dangerous situation for a mother and her four young children.”

“Both within law enforcement and in our communities, we must hold people accountable for intimate partner abuse and violence,” he continued.
