A Philadelphia police officer has been arrested and charged with fraud after an investigation revealed he intentionally provided false documents to the police department requesting nearly $4,000 in compensation for military leave he wasn’t owed, officials said today.

Ninth District Officer Louis Fletcher, a five-year-veteran, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, tampering with records and identification and unsworn falsification to authorities.

In April, the Internal Affairs Division of city police began an investigation into a possible integrity violation regarding Fletcher. Police found he requested compensation totaling $3,788.94 for military leave from January 2012 to March of this year. However, police found Fletcher retired from the military in September 2011.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has suspended Fletcher for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
