Philadelphia announces road closure information ahead of Juneteenth Parade and Festival

The City of Philadelphia released road closure information, including parking restrictions, public transit information, and more, on Monday, ahead of the 2024 Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival, which will take place on Sunday, June 16.

First hitting the streets of Philadelphia in 2016, the annual event returns to celebrate and observe the anniversary of slavery in the United States. The rain-or-shine event will feature local craft and food vendors, dance groups, live music, and, of course, the parade, beginning at noon at 52nd and Parkside Avenue. From there, it will continue to Malcolm X Park, where the festivities will continue. The festival itself will begin at 10 a.m.

With all the fun and excitement, it’s understandable that getting around the city will likely look a bit different. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. From 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, South Concourse Drive will be closed between Republic and Belmont Avenue for the parade starting area.

Avenue of the Republic between Belmont Avenue and States Drive, Wynnefield Avenue between Parkside Avenue and Belmont Avenue, and N. Georges Hill between Belmont Avenue and Avenue of the Republic will all be closed beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday, June 16.

From 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., or therearound, 5000-5300 Pine Street, 5000-5200 Larchwood Street, 200-600 S. 52nd Street, 400 S. 53rd Street, 400 S. 51st Street, and 5200 Delancey Street will all be closed. All of the specified areas are to be posted as “Temporary No Parking” zones, and all vehicles parked in these locations during the posted hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, will be relocated, according to representatives of the city of Philadelphia. If you believe your car has been relocated, call the police district of the area where your car was parked.

As far as public transportation is concerned, SEPTA Bus Routes 40 and 42 will detour starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, through approximately 3 p.m. SEPTA Bus Route 52 will detour beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, through approximately 9 p.m. Detours will be posted, and specific route changes are available on the System Status Page at septa.org.
