Philadelphia Union face yet another brutal test, this time vs. D.C. United

Sunday, May 17, the Philadelphia Union take on the daunting task of facing the Eastern Conference’s best team in first place D.C. United.

The Union piled on another loss last Saturday against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, bringing their dismal winless streak to five games.

“I’ve never been a part of something this difficult in the losing part of things,” manager Jim Curtain said, “we have to get back on track with a tough D.C. team coming into our building.”

United is riding an eight game winning-streak and have moved to the top of the MLS standings with a win over Orlando City Wednesday.

The game was highlighted by Chris Rolfe’s game-winning goal. Rolfe tacked on his team-leading third goal of the season. The forward also is leading the team in assists and shots on goal for the season as he looks to stay hot against a ninth place Union squad.

“Chris Rolfe’s a player, an old teammate of mine,” Curtin said, “that when he’s playing well and is confident as he is now, is as dangerous as attacking as anyone in the league.”

Curtin then touched upon United Manager Ben Olsen, who he looked up to as a player.

“They’re a team that if you look at the way they’ve been built,” Curtin said, “they’re not the team that spends five or ten million on a player, he’s done it in an impressive way and as a coach is doing a great job too. Credit to them, it’s going to be a tough game.”
