The Philadelphia Zoo has officially turned 150 years old.

On Monday, July 1, the Zoo celebrated its 150th grand opening anniversary with live music at the entrance. The 150th anniversary-themed festivities included history tours, food specials, performances, face painting, arts and crafts, games, and more.

When the Philadelphia Zoo first opened its doors in 1874, it welcomed 3,000 guests to what was then a brand new experience. Since then, it has proven to be a timeless excursion and has now welcomed more than 100 million people onto its grounds. To commemorate that rich history and in appreciation of those who have contributed and supported the Zoo over these many years, the Zoo is hosting an anniversary celebration all month long.
