Phillies Activate Brandon Marsh from Injured List; Option Weston Wilson

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Saturday afternoon that outfield Brandon Marsh has been activated ahead of their 4:05 contest with the Baltimore Orioles. Marsh was placed on the Injured List on June 3rd with a strained hamstring.

In a corresponding move, the Phillies announced that utility man Weston Wilson was optioned down to Lehigh Valley (AAA). Wilson had been 0-for-4 over two games played with the Phillies since being called up on June 3rd.

Marsh will regroup with the team following their exciting 5-3 victory over the Orioles in 11 innings on Friday evening. Marsh’s roommate, Alec Bohm, hit a two-run double in the 11th to give the Phillies the go-ahead runs. The Phillies’ left and center field contingent of David Dahl and Cristian Pache went a combined 0-for-7 on the night, indicating a perfectly-timed return for Marsh when it come to offense from the outfield.

In his rehab assignment with the Reading Fightin’ Phils (AA), Marsh went 4-for-8 across two games, scoring two runs while walking once. Thursday, he served as the designated hitter before getting action in center field on Friday evening.

Marsh Returns to Phillies

The reinforcement to the lineup is much-needed for the Phillies as they continue to operate without shortstop Trea Turner or catcher J.T. Realmuto. Set to face off against two top right-handers in Grayson Rodriguez and Corbin Burnes for the remainder of their time in Baltimore, having the left-handed Marsh return to the lineup may be just what the doctor ordered. Marsh will bat seventh in the lineup in his return on Saturday.

When Marsh went down, he had been riding a 6-for-18 stretch at the plate, including five walks and four runs scored. On the season, Marsh has posted a strong .265 average and .770 OPS. Having his bat return to the lineup will help bring a bit more stability to the later stages of the batting order.

Not to mention the morale boost having of having a key member of the Daycare back on the roster.
