Get off the bridge.
The Phillies broke their season-high, eight-game losing streak — and longest since 2000 — yesterday with a 9-4 win over the New York Mets. And skipper Charlie Manuel rolled out the team’s everyday lineup (Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Hunter Pence, Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Raul Ibanez, Placido Polanco, Carlos Ruiz) to get it.
“I like our lineup when we’ve got everybody here, but when you’ve got two or three of them missing we become a different team,” Manuel said.
The Phillies reeled off nine runs on 19 hits, as ace Roy Halladay threw six scoreless innings to earn his 19th victory. It was just the 16th time this season that the Phils had used their everyday lineup.
