Phillies fans ready to paint the town red — here’s how the city is preparing

City officials are preparing for possible celebrations Monday or Tuesday night, with the Phillies a win away from a second World Series appearance in as many years.

Game 6 of the National League Championship Series is scheduled to begin just after 5 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. If the Arizona Diamondbacks win, a deciding Game 7 would be held at the Bank on Tuesday.

“Philadelphia has some of the world’s best fans and we encourage fans to cheer on safely and responsibly and wish the Phillies good luck as this exciting series continues,” Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement Monday.

Temporary “no parking” signs are being placed along South Broad Street, around City Hall and in the area of Cottman and Frankford avenues in Mayfair, according to the Kenney administration. Cars parked in those areas with that signage after noon on Monday could be towed, officials said.

Should the Phillies beat the Diamondbacks, streets may be shutdown around the sports complex and in Center City between 13th and 15th streets from Race to Lombard streets, the mayor’s office said.

Barricades have also been installed in areas where celebrating fans typically congregate, according to the city.

The Kenney administration’s news release Monday did not mention pole greasing.
