Phillies fail in attempt to trade pitcher Jeremy Hellickson

According to sources, the Phillies have taken Jeremy Hellickson off ofrevocable waivers after failing in an attempt to work out a trade.

At some point this month, Hellickson was claimed by another team. According to the rules that govern trades at this time of year, the Phillies have two main options after a player is claimed — to negotiate a trade or to pull back the player.

It seems no deal could be worked out between Philadelphia and whatever team claimed Hellickson, and he’ll remain with the Phillies for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old is 10-8 with a 3.80 ERA in 26 starts this season, and is only signed through the end of the regular season. It is unknown whether the Phillies will try and bring him back next season or rely on a deep pool of minor league pitching talent working its way through the pipeline.
