Phillies hand out minor league awards

Clearwater outfielder Kelly Dugan has been named the Phillies’ minor league player of the month. The 22-year-old batted .314 in May with 33 hits in 26 games. Dugan also leads the Threshers in on-base percentage (.393) and slugging percentage (.570).

Lakewood’s Yoel Mecias earned the honor for the Phillies’ minor league pitcher of the month. Mecias, who signed as an amateur free agent in 2010, went 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA in six starts for the BlueClaws. He struck out 37 batters in 30 innings of work.

Dugan and Mecias hope to celebrating with the big club someday.
