With the start of the regular season set to begin tomorrow, March 28, many waited with bated breath for the Opening Day festivities. Unfortunately for Phillies fans, they will have to wait just a bit longer as the game has officially been postponed until Friday, March 29, the team announced in a press release.
Citing expected rainfall on Thursday, the team elected to postpone the game a day in hopes of improved conditions for the start of the season.
Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck commented on the decision, “This decision was made after consultation with Major League Baseball and various weather services. The open date on Friday gives us the ability to reschedule the game.”
Tickets and parking purchased for Thursday’s sold-out game (March 28) will be eligible for admission on March 29. The game is scheduled for a 3:05 p.m. start time, and on-field pregame activities are expected to begin around 2:20 p.m.
All gates will open at 12:35 p.m., and a Phillies Scarf, courtesy of Nemours Children’s Health, will be given away to all fans in attendance.
Not the greatest omen for your Philadelphia Phillies, but at that first sound of a glove popping or the crack of the bat, all will be right once again, and fans will be able to enjoy their team after an important offseason.
