Phillies injury updates: Latest on Alec Bohm, J.T Realmuto & 3 other players away from the lineup

As September has rolled on the Phillies have caught the injury bug of late. While the pitchers have mostly maintained their health, some hitters haven’t shared the same luck. Here’s the latest on all of them.

Phillies injury updates

Alec Bohm

When Alec Bohm first hurt his hand on an awkward swing on a foul ball, it seemed he would miss being put on the Injured List. On Friday, the Phillies moved him to the 10-Day IL retroactive to September 3rd.

“Good, he’s taking ground balls right now. He’ll do some dry swings and, hopefully, we’ll get to some tee and toss today,” said manager Rob Thomson pregame on Alec Bohm’s injury progression.

“If he can go back-to-back days [swinging] with being pain-free, we’re probably in a good spot,” said Thomson.

Edmundo Sosa

On Sunday, the Phillies added Edmundo Sosa to the 10-Day IL with back spasms retroactive to September 7th.

“Still sore today, said Thomson. “I don’t think he’ll be any longer than the 10-Day.” That would put Sosa’s timeline at September 17th in the middle of an important Brewers series in Milwaukee.

Austin Hays

One of the Phillies trade acquisitions has struggled to stay on the field. Austin Hays missed 13 games in August with a hamstring injury. He was placed on the 10-Day IL this time with a Kidney infection on Thursday retroactive to September 2nd.

Rob Thomson made it sound like he’s a decent way away from rejoining the lineup.

“He feels better but he’s legs still feel “heavy”, said Thomson. ” I don’t know how many days [until he’ll be ready]. “It’s gonna be awhile.”

JT Realmuto

JT Realmuto has been out of the lineup since fouling a ball off of his left knee on Friday against the Marlins.

“I would think we see him probably in the Mets series,” said Thomson. “We want to make sure the fluid is out of his knee and I want to see him catch a bullpen.”

He hasn’t caught a bullpen yet because of the swelling, but he should be back this weekend.

Rafael Marchan

Rafael Marchan has had an unlucky injury history. When JT Realmuto fould a ball off his knee, it would’ve been Marchan, not Aramis Garcia called up if he was healthy. He’s currently dealing with a left shoulder issue but it looks like he could be back soon.

“He’s supposed to play [for Lehigh Valley] tomorrow,” said Thomson.
