Phillies make franchise history by sending 7 players to 2024 MLB All-Star game

2024 has been an exciting season for Phillies fans and for the first time in a long time, the All-Star break carries just as much excitement. Not only is the team sat firmly atop the NL East, but a record 7 players will be representing the club at this years’ All-Star game.

Bryce Harper

With 87 hits and 52 runs in 76 games, Bryce Harper ended All-Star voting as the National Leagues’ leader in voting and will represent the NL at 1st base as a result. The face of the Phillies has blossomed in his new position and is firing offensively at an MVP calibre. His spot in the All-Star game is beyond deserved and his first nod in a Phillies uniform.

Ranger Suarez

The rise of Ranger Suarez has been an exciting one to watch. With a staggering 2.58 ERA and 10 wins in 18 starts, Suarez has been nothing short of sensational all year long. It’s his first All-Star nod and hopefully the first of many after elevating himself to an elite level and sustaining it all season long.

Trea Turner

Trea Turner is back to his best and now has a third All-Star appearance to show for it. He’s been among the Phillies’ most consistent contributors all year and proved that last years’ slump was simply the exception to the rule. His offensive excellence has been vital to the success of one of the hottest teams in Baseball.

Alec Bohm

Alec Bohm’s breakout has been one of the most entertaining to watch in all of baseball this season and he’s been rewarded with an All-Star debut. His 11 home runs on the year rank 4th on the team, and he led the NL in both doubles and RBI at the time of the announcement. Bohm’s red-hot streak to start the season was a real sign of things to come, and it will be exciting to see him slug it out in the Home Run Derby.

Zack Wheeler

Zack Wheeler has become a real mainstay on the Philadelphia roster and for good reason. His big-time contract this past offseason reflected the confidence that the team has in him, and he’s only further delivered on that. His 2.74 ERA ranks 9th in the entire league and Wheeler has done nothing but deliver big game after big game this season, firmly earning his spot in the All-Star game.

Jeff Hoffman

The third of four Phillies pitchers named to the All-Star game, Hoffman’s efforts as a reliever have been recognized. His xERA of 2.24 is just exceptional, with Hoffman providing 8 saves on the season and allowing just 8 runs in 37 innings.

Matt Strahm

The seventh and final Phillie named to the All-Star game this year is Matt Strahm, after garnering 6 saves this season and a 4-1 record in the process. Strahm’s ability to pick up clutch strikeouts has been huge for the Phillies this season and it’s great to see that play rewarded.

This is the most players that the Phillies have ever sent to an All-Star game, with the previous record being 5. The game takes place on Tuesday, July 18, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
