Phillies Notebook: Roy Halladay leaves team for family matter

One day after an extremely uncharacteristic performance, Roy Halladay has left the Phillies — at least temporarily.

Halladay, who blew a six-run lead in Wednesday’s 15-13 loss, was granted permission to leave the ballclub to deal with a family matter. He is expected to rejoin the team Friday.

The right-hander allowed 12 hits and eight earned runs in six innings in his last start. It was only the second time in his career he had allowed 12 or more hits and eight or more runs. Halladay was sweating profusely on the mound on an 87-degree night in Atlanta, but refused to blame the heat.

“Honestly, I felt good,” Halladay said. “It had nothing to do with anything else. I wish I had a better reason for you, but I don’t. It was just a lack of executing pitches in key situations. That’s what cost me.”
